Former 49er GM and Bruins Coach, Terry Donahue Celebrates the Victory in Opportunity
More than 1,000 real estate professionals raise more than $560,000 for academic and skills-training programs for Orange County's youth


Irvine, Calif. May 16, 2007 – Following the success of years past, more than 1,000 real estate professionals and industry leaders convened for the 8th annual Orange County United Way Real Estate and Building Industry Luncheon on Wednesday, May 16, 2007 at the Hyatt Regency Irvine. Former San Francisco 49er General Manager and local resident, Terry Donahue inspired the crowd that raised more than $560,000 for Orange County United Way’s Keeping Kids On Track (KKOT) initiative.

Orange County United Way’s KKOT initiative is focused on improving youth development in Orange County by providing young people ages 7-17 opportunities to learn and grow to their full potential. The initiative supports community programs and partnerships that promote the attainment of higher education through strengthening academic performance levels and improving self esteem.

The 5th annual Dan Donahue Award, presented in memory of Terry Donahue’s brother, Dan Donahue -- community philanthropist and commercial real estate business leader of Donahue Schriber, was presented to Mr. Jon Webb. As Executive Director for the Foundation for Social Resources, Webb is dedicated to providing families of affordable housing communities with enriched services in effort to increase the opportunities for their children. In 1999, Webb helped form Project Access, a nonprofit aimed at helping low-income community residents achieve self-sufficiency through onsite education, health and social services. As part of the award, Project Access will receive $10,000 to support its programs.

Keynote speaker, Terry Donahue played as a defensive end at UCLA and later served as head coach to the Bruins from ’76 – ’95. Terry was the 1st coach in the history of college football to win seven consecutive bowl games. In 2001, Terry was hand-picked to success Bill Walsh as General Manager for the 49ers and was with them until 2005.

“Opportunity is one of the great gifts of life we can bestow upon another person,” said Donahue. “We can all do more. With the time, talents and resources in this room, United Way can provide many more opportunities to many wonderful young people,” added Donahue.

This year’s event co-chairs and Diamond Sponsors each giving $30,000 were Tom Purcell, President of Spring Creek Investors and Kevin Jennings, Senior Vice President of Bank of America. Emerald sponsors giving $15,000 were: Donahue Schriber, MBK Real Estate, Orange County Business Journal, Sares Regis and Stradling, Yocca, Carlson & Rauth.
