Irvine, CA, May 16, 2019 – With sincere admiration and bittersweet sentiment, Orange County United Way announces that Carla Vargas Jasa will be leaving Orange County to begin a new leadership role within the United Way family – President and CEO of Valley of the Sun United Way in Phoenix, Arizona.
Vargas Jasa spent more than 20 years with Orange County United Way, serving most recently as Chief Operating Officer. Among her significant contributions to the organization, Vargas Jasa led the development of Orange United Way’s FACE 2024 plan, and guided the work and recent launch of the United to End Homelessness Initiative. She also developed the Advocacy/Public Policy Plan and pioneered its growth in both major gifts and endowment efforts.
Vargas Jasa’s last day with Orange County United Way will be June 12.
“We are both thrilled for Carla to embark on this new, exciting adventure, and sad to be losing such a valuable member of our leadership team,” said Susan B. Parks, President and CEO, Orange County United Way. “Carla’s intelligence, passion and humanity have made it such a pleasure to work with her, and her substantial contributions to United Way and the great community we serve will have a lasting impact within our walls and throughout Orange County.”
Vargas Jasa will be the first woman and the first Latina to hold the position of President and CEO since Valley of the Sun United Way began in 1927. As President & CEO of Valley of the Sun United Way, which serves the more than 4.3 million people of Maricopa County, Vargas Jasa will provide strategic leadership and expertise to one of the largest philanthropic organizations in Arizona.
“I am very proud of all that has been accomplished by Orange County United Way over the years, and to have had the opportunity to work with so many committed and compassionate individuals,” said Vargas Jasa. “I know that the organization will continue on its tremendous path of success under Sue’s leadership and that of the strong Orange County United Way team – and I look forward to watching that success from afar and cheering them on!”
Parks and the larger United Way team are working on a transition plan, and further details will be announced later this summer.
