Our hearts and thoughts are with the people of Paris and all affected by the recent violence.
The brutality of the 13 November attacks in Paris was horrifying and senseless. They come at a time when state governments, communities and NGOs across Europe are working to create opportunities for the underprivileged, promote civic engagement AND integrate hundreds of thousands of refugees. As French Authorities, the Mairie of Paris (City Hall) and NGOs address the immediate needs of the victims of the attacks, they are also concerned with the long-term prospects for social cohesion in France, particularly in underprivileged areas.
United Way France’s work focused on education and opportunities for youth is even more important now than it was before. Our plan is to expand existing programs focusing on youth education and opportunities, reduce the school dropout rate and build the capacity of local NGOs working to promote social cohesion and ensure today’s young people remain active and engaged members of society.
