Paying rent doesn’t always mean a family is financially secure. For some Orange County households, keeping up with rising housing costs means cutting back on groceries and other essentials. These difficult choices can be an early sign of financial hardship, long before a family faces a housing crisis.
Recognizing these warning signs can create opportunities to help families before their housing is at risk. But what does that support look like, and how can our community respond sooner?
As part of our annual Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week, our next Community Chat will feature a conversation with LaVal Brewer, President & CEO of South County Outreach; Hallie Stohler-Plaza, Alliance Director at Abound Food Care; and Becks Heyhoe-Khalil, Executive Director of United to End Homelessness at Orange County United Way.
They’ll discuss how food insecurity can signal housing instability, where opportunities for early intervention exist, and how food assistance, housing resources, and community partnerships can help families stay housed.
